We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Early Childhood Educator/Assistant Supervisor to join our team in West Vancouver, BC.

As a fully Licensed Early Childhood Educator this Senior ECE/Assistant Supervisor position functions as a program lead, supervising staff while providing hands-on support in a child care setting ensuring programs are running smoothly and is the lead liaison for parents, families and intakes. This position is responsible for handling crises such as sickness, accidents, etc. and providing solutions as situations arise for the team and families. The incumbent is responsible for managing and implementing culturally appropriate programs that are conducive to early childhood development and that support the varying needs and well-being of children and parents in the community. Responsible to implement support service for children with special needs or experiencing developmental delays. Leads, plans and coordinates child development programs as well as creates meal plans, shopping and monthly program calendars. The incumbent is also responsible for completing various reports i.e. incident, attendance, funding and quarterly reports. The incumbent has a high-level of people interaction, works well within teams, and functions as a leader responding with courtesy, tact and diplomacy.


  • Responsible for completing intakes with parents/families and all aspects of registration. Coordinates and ensures parents/families complete the Ages and Stages questionnaires.
  • Leads the planning, coordination and implementation of developmentally appropriate programs and monthly meal plan. Completes a monthly program calendar. Develops and communicates bus pick-up schedule. Liaise with other resources/departments to coordinate instructors, facilitators, etc. i.e. language.
  • Ensures culturally appropriate programs are in place. Leads the development of curriculum to incorporate Squamish language, cultural teaching, storytelling, songs, etc. into programs.
  • Oversees onsite day-to-day care of children by staff, ensuring care is adequate and meets standards/expectations. Coaches and provides feedback to staff regarding their effective care of children. Regularly assesses physical, mental and emotional well-being of children and works with staff to ensure adequate support to children.
  • Ensures a healthy and safe environment for all children, staff, and visitors inside and outside of the building. Posts all health hazards, allergies, etc., ensuring awareness and compliance. Ensures bus drivers adhere to health and safety standards and reports any concerns to bus driver’s supervisor immediately.
  • Functions as the main contact with parent/families. Ensures all program information i.e. program handbook, notices, monthly meal plan, bus schedule, etc. is communicated to parents/families. Communicates child’s day with parents/families and conducts parent/educator interviews bi-annually.
  • Works with ASCD Officer/BI’s to ensures effective inclusion and support for children who are at risk of or diagnosed with developmental delays. Leads implementation of early intervention support directives, ensuring staff follow through with supports to children, as detailed by specialists. Makes referrals to Early Years Team Leader for services.
  • Maintains daily attendance, files, nucleus database, health records, etc. ensuring confidentiality and licensing standards are adhered to. Communicates incidents with parents and ensures all incidents are recorded by relevant staff member.
  • Communicates with Provincial licensing, First Nation Health Authority, etc. as needed. Assists with reporting i.e. Child Care Operating Fund, children transitioning to school, etc., adhering to Provincial licensing standards and policies.
  • Adheres to workplace health & safety policies, safe work practices and procedures.
  • Participates as a member of the Family Centres and Ayas Men Men Child & Family Services Teams.


You will also demonstrate:

  • Diploma in Early Childhood Education with an Infant Toddler & Post Basic Special Needs Certificate, with License to Practice.
  • 2 – 3 years of directly-related experience in the majority of duties listed in the job description including experience in an early childhood setting as a licensed educator supporting children with disabilities or extra support needs, working in a multi-disciplinary team, leadership responsibilities including administration, program planning, main liaison with parents including written communication with families, community, monthly/quarterly reports, documentation, etc.
  • As career progresses, incumbent will be required to successfully complete job-required, short-term upgrading, training and courses relating to child care program management, Squamish language, First Nation’s child development, curriculum development, language immersion, leadership etc.
  • Experience as an intermediate user of the Internet and Microsoft Office Applications – Outlook (Email), Word, Excel, etc.
  • Previous experience working in a First Nations Community (particularly Squamish) is an asset.
  • Valid First Aid & CPR Certificate or willing to obtain within set timeframe.
  • Valid Food Safe Certificate or willing to obtain within set timeframe.
  • Must provide a copy of immunization record or willing to provide within a set timeframe.
  • Must provide a doctor’s letter/medical certificate stating sound physical and psychological health.
  • Must successfully complete Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search as per Squamish Nation Policy.
